Is Something Wrong with Your Siding?

Sometimes, it’s hard to tell when something is wrong with your home’s siding.

Winter can wreak havoc on your home. Whether it’s your roof, your gutters, or your siding, you need to make sure that all elements of your exterior are in good condition. However, sometimes, it’s hard to tell when something is wrong with your home’s siding. Keep an eye out for these signs.

When You Have Vinyl Siding

As durable as vinyl siding is, it has its limits. Freezing temperature can affect the structural integrity of your vinyl siding, which means that it becomes brittle more easily. The more brittle it is, the more likely it is to crack or break. Once that happens, you will need to replace the damaged parts. Putting off replacement is not feasible, either, since heat and moisture will be penetrating the remaining siding and causing even more problems.

When You Have Wooden Siding

Most of the time, you can laminate your wooden siding. This can help prevent weather damage. Sadly, snow can ruin the lamination. Once that happens, your wooden siding is more likely to start rotting. Since that rot can also affect the roof and foundation of your home, you will need to address it as soon as possible.

When Your Siding is Broken

Unfortunately, your home’s siding can break due to debris damage from wind storms or pressure from ice and snow. Loose siding can affect the insulation of your home, allowing cold air to get in and warm air to get out.

Structural Problems

Your siding can develop many different structural problems, and they tend to get worse during the winter. For instance, something could be seriously wrong with the paint. You should only need to paint your siding every 8-10 years; anything more frequent than that points to potential problems. The siding can also warp, crack, spring a leak, or start to show holes. However, many of these signs are hard to find until you get a more obvious signal, such as your utility bills going up unexpectedly when you are trying to save money on your heating bill this winter.
