Celebrating Earth Day with Solar Shingles

Earth Day is more than just a single day — April 22, 2016. It’s bigger than attending a rally and taking a stand.

This Earth Day and beyond, let’s make big stuff happen. Let’s plant 7.8 billion trees for the Earth. Let’s divest from fossil fuels and make cities 100% renewable. Let’s take the momentum from the Paris Climate Summit and build on it.

Let’s start now. And let’s not stop.

Benefits of Solar Shingles

Solar shingles are a great investment in terms of saving both money and the environment.

This Friday marks the 46th annual Earth Day, and we’re ready to embrace Mother Nature. That “renewable” bit in there caught our attention, and we wanted to take a minute to tell you about our steps toward creating that renewable world that the Earth Day Network dreams of. We’re doing our part with solar shingles.

Save the World with Solar Shingles

A couple months ago we wrote about the benefits of solar shingles, but that piece focused mainly on how solar shingles benefit you. This blog post, on the other hand, is about how solar shingles can benefit the Earth. If you know anything about solar energy, you know the basics. It’s all about renewable energy and eliminating (or at least reducing) the amount of fossil fuels we consume. For the sake of concrete evidence, here are a few numbers that show exactly how we’re helping Mother Nature with the implementation of solar energy. If just 5% of American households go solar, that’s the equivalent of:

  • Taking 7.7 million cars off the road
  • Removing 89.6 million pounds of harmful CO2 from the environment
  • Offsetting every single vehicle sold in the US in 2007
  • Giving 6.9 million trees a break from their “CO2 offsetting” work.

The best part of all of this though is that we’ll stop wasting limited resources to create electricity. The sun isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and last we checked, sunlight is free. In just one day, the energy in the amount of sunlight that hits the US alone is over 2,500x the entire country’s daily energy usage. Do us, yourself, your friends, family, neighbors, and fellow humans a favor this Earth Day, and consider solar shingles.
